Probing the quark condensate by means of ππ scattering

چکیده

The available experimental information is consistent with the Weinberg predictions for the threshold parameters of ππ-scattering. The data, however, only test those relations that are insensitive to the quark masses mu and md. Recent theoretical progress leads to remarkably sharp predictions for the behaviour of the Sand P-wave phase shifts in the elastic region – one of the very few low energy phenomena in QCD, where theory is ahead of experiment and where new precision data would subject the theory to a crucial test.

The single-flavour quark condensate 〈0 |qq| 0〉 is a fundamental parameter of χPT , determining the relative size of mass and momentum terms in the expansion. Since it can not be predicted theoretically, its value must be determined experimentally, e.g. by measuring the ππ scattering lengths, whose values are predicted very precisely within the framework of χPT , assuming a big quark condensate ...

Pionium lifetime and ππ scattering lengths in generalized chiral perturbation theory

The relationship between the pionium lifetime and the ππ scattering lengths is established, including the sizable electromagnetic corrections. The bound state formalism that is used is that of constraint theory which provides a covariant three-dimensional reduction of the Bethe–Salpeter equation. The framework of generalized chiral perturbation theory allows then an analysis of the lifetime val...

The ππ S - wave scattering lengths July 11 , 2000

We match the known chiral perturbation theory representation of the ππ scattering amplitude to two loops with a phenomenological description that relies on the Roy equations. On this basis, the corrections to Wein-berg's low energy theorems for the S-wave scattering lengths are worked out to second order in the expansion in powers of the quark masses. The resulting predictions, a 0 0 = 0.220 ± ...

The Low Energy π π Amplitude To One and Two Loops

The low-energy ππ amplitude is computed explicitly to two-loop accuracy in the chiral expansion. It depends only on six independent (combinations of) low-energy constants which are not fixed by chiral symmetry. Four of these constants are determined via sum rules which are evaluated using ππ scattering data at higher energies. Dependence of the low-energy phase shifts and of the threshold param...
